Board Members

Region V Board is comprised of sixteen members representing several companies across the region.  Each member brings their own area of expertise to the organization allowing for a diverse and cross-functional aspect to the safety and health management system which the Voluntary Protection Program Participation Association is founded on.   

History

Region V is comprised of the "Great Lakes" states. Our states include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. VPP in three states (Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin) is managed by federal OSHA while the other three (Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota) is managed by the state.  As of 2017, Region V has 359 VPP sites and we have over 230 VPPPA members.                   

We hold an annual conference for Region V members, VPP companies and those who are interested in attaining VPP recognition or who just like to gain more knowledge in safety and health.  On average, 500 people attend the conference each year.  The conference lasts 2 days with a comprehensive program including advanced, intermediate and beginners curriculum in all VPP and VPPPA topics.  Over 50 exhibitors attend the conference providing attendees a wealth of information on the latest and greatest practices and safety equipment.

John is the Division Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Brandenburg Industrial Service Company, one of the nation’s premier firms specializing in commercial and industrial demolition and environmental remediation. He became an SGE in 2016, and has participated in yearly VPP certification audits. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health and Safety from Northern Illinois University and has worked as an environmental health and safety professional since 2000.

Randy Schwartzkopf

Randy is an hourly associate with Afton Chemical in Sauget, IL.  He has 25 years experience with the last 12 years within health and safety field. He is the hourly safety person for the local 871-C of 167 employees. He is an OSHA 10 and 30 hour outreach instructor and has both attended and taught classes at ICWUC Health and Safety Center in Cincinnati Ohio.

Dennis E. Mendenhall, CSP

Dennis is the Safety Manager of the Terminals Organization at Marathon Petroleum Company and has a combined sixteen years of industry experience in various capacities.  This has included Downstream, Midstream, and Upstream business unit support with various responsibilities in the health, environment, and safety arena.  In his current role he is responsible for all aspects of safety and health compliance for approximately 110 terminals across the country.  He holds degrees in Safety Management (BS), and Occupational Safety Management (MS) from Indiana State University.

Darnell Crenshaw, Assistant Regional Administrator for Cooperative and State Programs in the OSHA Chicago Regional Office, where he leads a diverse group of safety and health professionals to reduce hazards and assist workers and employer with understanding their rights and responsibilities in the workplace.  Mr. Crenshaw holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Northern Illinois University and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
